O U R   C H E F

When speaking with the elusive Angie, you won't get much information. Humble and playful, she doesn't talk much of herself. However, when I sneak back to the kitchen to rob the tray of a biscuit and drench it in honey, I begin to acquire some ammunition for this section.

Angie is from Great Falls, SC. She began with The Front Porch after responding to an advertisement for a cook in the paper when she was eighteen. When I inquired about her training, she just said "Some things come naturally. I've been cooking my whole life."

Her interview had to be rescheduled for night time because of Libby's hair appointment. (If you know Libby, you know that she is a true Southern Belle and will have her hair done... inspite of any threat of high water!)

Angie slowly began adding here and there to what was happening with the food. Now, she is renowned for her special touches. People drive from all over, and make a point not to miss Exit 65 to get the food she's spent all day on. Sometimes with her head phones on and music in her ears... What's she listening to? Good question. She probably won't tell you.

The sous chefs and kitchen staff are almost always having fun back there, in what is truly the heart of any restaurant. Often the laughter and singing gets so loud it must be piped down. They'll tell you they are family and many of them are. And, like family they know exactly how to support each other. When I go back there they are usually playing and may be experimenting with some new concoction ...one that may very well end up on the chalkboard.

Thanks for being our heart, guys, and making it happen!
